Success as a New Top 100 Stay at Home Mom Blogger

While I am a relatively new mommy blogger, to say that I have learned a little over the last 4 months blogging would be an understatement. Going from a mommy who read blogs on the internet via pinterest occasionally, to a stay at home mommy blogger was no small feat. Needless to say, when I was nominated as one of the Top 100 Stay at Home Mom Bloggers by Feedspot within my first 3 months of blogging, I was nothing short of shocked!

So how did I manage to get named on this list and find blogging success so quickly? That my friend is a great question! While I did not know that this compilation existed when I began blogging, I have done some looking into it since to find out some things I did to help get me on it. Let’s start at the top, shall we?

Create your Blog using Bluehost

The first thing I did in order to become a successful mommy blogger, was to create my blog. Gotta start somewhere right? I did quite a bit of research before I started my blog. (Namely due to the fact that there was money involved and I didn’t want to screw it up.) After all of my research, I landed on Bluehost as the option for the hosting of my blog. This was because it was very user friendly (especially since I had no idea what the heck I was doing), there was plenty of positive testimonials out there on it (I wanted to make sure other’s actually liked it before I sank my investment in) and it was relatively cheap (I have seen plans go as low as $2.95/month for hosting, which is pretty darn low in the blogging world!). These three things made me feel I would have the best chance of success with Bluehost. If you want more info on how to get started with Bluehost, you can check them out by clicking here.

Work on SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

The next thing I got to working on pretty quickly was the Search Engine Optimization of my posts. While I will not pretend to be an expert on SEO, I will tell you that there is one plugin that makes a world of difference in the success of beginner bloggers. The Yoast plugin has literally changed my SEO game entirely. You see, I started without it, and was doing everything I could to follow the research points I had read. Unfortunately, it was doing nothing for my traffic and was just taking up my time. Then I found Yoast. The plugin literally walks you through optimizing not only your visibility on search engines, but also the overall readability of your posts! All of a sudden, I started being discovered through search engines. I an guessing this is what helped my Alexa rank on Feedspots ranking tool as well.

Build a Facebook Following

Another of the categories Feedspot ranked the top mom bloggers on is their Facebook following. While my following isn’t huge, I did get it started early and I have managed over 100 followers! In order to do this, I made sure to start my Facebook page the same day that my blog went live. I invited all of my friends and family, and let it start growing from there. Since then, I have picked up a few followers here and there, but my page is still growing slowly. I have read that growth on Facebook is all about consistency in posting, so this is something I will be working on to improve my own ranking in the future. Currently, a lot of what I post is simply my blog posts, which will mean some change to my grove. Want to check out my current page? You can check it out by clicking here, and feel free to follow me to keep up on my crazy!

Build a Twitter Following

The last ranking that Feedspot lists that they reviewed was my Twitter following. One of the mistakes that I made when I started blogging was that I did not start a Twitter for my blog when I first started. I am still fairly new to Twitter, and I am learning more and more everyday about the platform. One of the way’s I have grown my following in a short time, was by using the Crowdfire App. While I opted for a paid plan, it has a free option as well to start building your following, and it allows you to engage with real followers. (This is as opposed to the fake followers you can buy.) As of today, my Twitter has more than tripled what Feedspot currently reports, which leaves me hoping that my ranking may go up next month!

Produce Consistent & Quality Content

Two things that will matter the most to you as a new blogger are quality and consistency. These are two things that I focused intently on when I started my blogging journey. While I have fallen off the wagon a time or two with the number of posts I have produced, I refuse to sacrifice the quality of my posts for more content. This, I believe, has helped me to better relate to my readers, which helps my blog across the board. If there is one thing you take away from this whole post as a new blogger, let it be this. Do not ever sacrifice the quality of content you produce for a bigger quantity of posts. It is just not worth it.

These are the things that I have done thus far in my blogging journey that have had the most impact on my success ranking thus far. If you are new to blogging, or thinking about starting, let me know below what your biggest challenge has been. Been blogging for a while? What have you done to drive your success? Let me know!
